What will happen to the BJP after Narendra Modi?

By Sunil Kumar

Undeniable fact that PM Narendra Modi’s charisma; his fame/infamy(depending on your personal opinion) has led to a resurgence of the BJP.

The BJP was in a very fractured state before the rise of Modi; and it is doubtful that any of the old “margdarshaks” (Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi) would have led the party to a “great” degree of electoral success.

The daily spectacle of disgruntled politicians unhappy over reduced political importance like Arun Shourie, Yeshwant or Shatrughan Sinha is murky and disheartening apart from other “chameleon-like” entities in Indian politics who switch allegiance in every election; leading many voters like me to doubt their motives and real interest.

If Narendra Modi and Amit Shah build a strong organization at the grassroots with the potential for visionary and charismatic leaders to emerge; rather than the semi-criminal, self-obsessed political setup which we are infested with; then the BJP may survive for a long time after Modi.

Infighting or lack of a nationally appealing leader may again relegate it to “relative” political obscurity(After Modi; the BJP will remain part of the “national” discourse for many years).
