What is a micro history book?

By Sunil Kumar

A microhistory book is as the name suggests an intensive investigation into a small unit of research(for example; a single individual, a village, community or event).

However; it aims to be profound in its scope and ask in-depth and profound questions about the unit of study.

The genre scope is not limited to a particular subject: for example the most obvious “history”. A writer could pen a book on feathers, the alimentary canal, salt or paper. In an Indian context; it could be on for example: The Third Anglo-Sikh War, “Jugaad” or Fishing Communities in Tamil Nadu.
