News, Politics And Outcomes

By Sunil Kumar

Less than 3 weeks before we know who forms the country’s next government. In the daily charade of electioneering; BJP releases a video targeted at the Vadra-Gandhi combine. A few thoughts running through my head: educational qualifications and the government. While Modi has a masters in political science; and Manmohan Singh; the outgoing PM was a PhD; Kejriwal is an engineering grad from Kharagpur. Nothing to be said about anybody else.

Visit sunil-kumar.co.in Tenzin Gyatso, the fourteenth and current Dalai Lama, is the leader of the exiled Tibetan government in India. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. Photographed during his visit in Cologno Monzese MI, Italy, on december 8th, 2007. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

In the din of 24X7 television; a lot of emphasis has been placed on foreign publications such as the Economist and the New York Times. When no one takes their ruminations seriously internationally; in the age of the daily debate; we have heated discussions on the merits and demerits of a particular candidate; and non-stop shouting matches. I see the same verbosity all over the world; every news network; but don’t be so darned condescending and opposed to national interest.

Most of the correspondents working in these magazines are graduates of an ill-informed Western education system; that has minimal interest and knowledge about the wellbeing of India. It seems utterly foolish when such shoddy uninformed (probably tattooed; didn’t check all of them) white cronies are thought as authorities on a country; which the Indians should themselves know better.

Most of these Caucasians have a view that is so Euro-Centric that it is jarring; anathema in the land of Dharma and whisky; desi style. Bringing in Slavic Russia; the current hot potato in the tussle between former Cold War adversaries only indicates that their brains; fettered in the mesh of upbringing; cannot see a country that is strong and united; unlike the Chinese dragon that is now increasingly breathing fire on a hypocritical sleazy money-driven West.

India is a country that controlled 25% of world trade before the criminal British set foot here. Quite like the Mughals; the list of deliberate attempts by the bleak island to impoverish, starve and manipulate trade is such a long one; that it needs hundreds of books; which have already been written. Opium; famines in Bengal and elsewhere around the country; and a systematic policy of “divide and rule”. The current cabinet of ministers is supposed to be “educated”; yet it deliberately issues misleading statements on the country’s economic leadership through nearly all of its 5000 year old history. The worst offenders are known to the public; so they do not need any elaboration. Freedom of expression; Article 19 of the Constitution. Also; in cyberspace.

The PM’s brother joining the opposition this week was another jolt to the ruling combine. There were also expectations from the Aam Aadmi Party in Amethi; but it seemed Priyanka was more than enough for them to forget core issues such as development, roads and education. Another blog writer mentions impressive agricultural growth in Gujarat; the provision of 24×7 electricity as positive factors; which they indeed are. Subramaniam S. Ankleshwara Aiyar has also mentioned quick clearance as a positive factor in the state.

There are obvious warts in the equation; as in everything; but I don’t see anybody offering a constructive solution. In fact; we only have a narrow debate that seems to range on who’s for Modi or against him. If all the hypocritical parties had not noticed; there are many more states in the Union from Sikkim to Karnataka. Debate seems to be meaningless; more made for TV than anything else. If this is the case; make a serial; atleast this could prove to be more entertaining. Give Subramaniam Swamy the role of the maverick; a Narada with inside information.

How could things change on the ground if we have a government with a radically different mindset? Looks kind of difficult when the current crop of people are analyzed. Surely; we have economists who dish out jargon like debt traps; current account deficits, GDP, services growth and many more. The more important factor in the equation; GNH(Happiness) seems to have been left somewhere. Is it merely financial; or something more than that; a new society that does not stress so much on conformance; but rather on concrete newness. Sanyasin for the Soul.

All of India’s movers and shakers lead remarkably colorful and drab lives; indulging at the same time in self-righteous sermonizing; and a world of personal extravagance. Consumption is good for the economy; just don’t be so damn two-faced. We have the same bunch of opinionated panelists on every discussion; and people lapping them up as if they reflect the opinion of every one of a vast nation. A plea to TV anchors; apart from the “supposed” chaterati; bring in new faces; far from the madding crowd. Somebody as calm as the Dalai Lama won’t hurt.

News; politics and outcomes. Wanted to write on something different. But that’s my blog post for the day!
