Is it ironic that Nawazuddin Siddiqui, a man from UP playing the role of Bal Thackeray in his biopic who was against migrants from UP?

Yes, it is indeed ironic that Siddiqui is playing the part of Bal Thackeray in the biopic. I believe that this is going to be a 2-part series.

But, this question would be better answered by the producers of the movie-the Shiv Sena. They obviously thought that Nawazuddin was suitable for the role.

Apparently, the Thackeray family themselves are not natives of Maharashtra, and are from M.P or Bihar. So, all the ‘sons-of-the-soil’ narrative is humbug and electoral expediency.

Thackerays have their roots in Magadh in Bihar: Book

As you very well know, votebank politics dominates this country and will probably do so till kingdom come. The party may even be aiming at pleasing people from U.P and Bihar as nearly all of them do when elections are around the corner.

The Shiv Sena has a Gujarati outreach wing after demonstrations against them led by the SS and the MNS. This is done to stop loss of voters to the BJP or Congress. The reason could be economic(amount to be forked out) or someone in the party may be a fan. Anyways, fun to speculate but extremely ironic and predictable in India, a land of a billion contradictions.
